Why The Forge
Ideas MZI Hasn’t Been Asked to Build Yet
Every project here started the same way every good idea at MZI starts, engineers talking about something outside the scope of whatever they were actually hired to do.
MZI’s day-to-day work is federal systems engineering: FAA, NAS, and DOT programs where the margin for error is small and the schedule is real. But the same engineers who do that work also spend time on problems nobody has asked them to solve yet. Sometimes those conversations turn into a sponsored capstone at George Mason University. Sometimes they turn into a summer intern’s first real software project. Most of the time, they just stay conversations. The Forge is where the ones that go somewhere get a home.
Not everything here becomes a program, and that’s fine. mzisol.com is where MZI shows the work we’ve delivered and stand behind completely. The Forge is earlier than that: ideas being tested, prototypes being built, work nobody outside MZI asked for. Some of it will keep going. Some of it won’t. Either way, it’s real, and it’s shown here honestly, at whatever stage it’s actually at.
